Marty is Métis and has deep roots in both Alberta and Saskatchewan and has over 30 years experience working in the healthcare setting in a variety of settings.
He is a Registered Psychiatric
Nurse with an undergraduate degree in Native Studies and a Masters of Science in Population Health. For over 25 years Marty has promoted health equity for Indigenous peoples in the healthcare system through his experiences in Indigenous health engagement with provincial and federal governments and First Nations, and Metis communities.
He comes with extensive experience in Indigenous health program planning and development in the healthcare system and with working within the sensitive and intricate systems of the Indigenous, provincial, federal and health authority structures.
Marty has experience in providing strategic direction, guidance and advice to healthcare system leadership. Marty has a clear demonstrated understanding of cultural safety, ethical space, and principles of trauma informed care.

Marty is Métis and has deep roots in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. His family originates from a variety of areas including Maskwacis, Red River, Batoche, and Jasper House. He has family in North Battleford, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Wetaskiwin, Maskwacis, Ponoka, Medicine Hat, Vancouver and Victoria.
Marty has over 30 years experience working in a variety of health and wellness settings from mental health, diabetes education, and addictions. He is a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with an undergraduate degree in Native Studies and has a Master of Science in Population Health. Marty has extensive experience in healthcare leadership. He was the Director of Poundmaker’s Lodge Addictions Treatment Centre, worked as the Director of the Indigenous Health Unit with Alberta Health, and was the Executive Director of the Indigenous Wellness Core with Alberta Health Services.
